Stillingsopplysninger
As farmers, the health and welfare of our livestock means everything to us, with our expert husbandry staff working hand in hand with our specialist fish health team to deliver a holistic ‘prevention over cure’ approach from egg to humane harvest.
Now, we’re looking to strengthen our in-house resource even further with the appointment of an additional fish veterinarian.
With 42 marine farms located around Scotland’s west coast and Northern Isles, Scottish Sea Farms recorded a sector-leading average fish survival rate of 92 per cent in 2020 – and we’re working hard to increasing that high survival even further.
Achieving it will rely on a range of factors: from improving our understanding of what more we can do to pre-empt existing and emerging challenges to fish health, to continuing our ongoing investment in farming infrastructure, response times and resource.
About the role
The position of Fish Veterinarian is a key role within an already high performing fish health department. Reporting directly to the Head of Veterinary Services, you will be one of a close-knit team of in-house veterinarians with clinical and care oversight of the health and welfare status of all our stock, from freshwater and marine stages to humane harvest.
Responsibilities will include:
- Providing clinical support to the fish health team in disease diagnosis, prevention and treatment interventions
- Operating as Prescribing Veterinarian, responsible for medicine usage, external veterinary/diagnostic support and shared intervention capacity
- Offering technical support on fish health to Regional and Farm Managers
- Communicating on fish health matters with Farm Managers and husbandry staff
- Taking ownership of all procedural documentation relating to operational fish health
- Ensuring centralised clinical records are well maintained and organised
- Embodying and driving forward our ethos of continual improvement and innovation
- Representing our commitment to fish health and welfare, and providing relevant technical expertise, at sector and other relevant forums.
About you
A member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, you will ideally have at least three years’ commercial experience in farmed animal production. In that time, you’ll have proven your ability to work independently, perfected your time-management skills and honed your ability to communicate effectively with colleagues whether in person or in writing. You will be ambitious and keen to progress in a company that prides itself on development and rewarding careers.
Competitive package
In return, we’ll offer a competitive salary reflective of your experience, along with personal pension, private healthcare and bonus scheme. Based in Argyll, but with regular travel around our farming estate, the role also includes a company car, as well as a relocation expenses if joining us from outside of the UK.
An equal opportunities employer, we welcome applications from all suitable qualified persons. (Please note, if applying from outside of the UK you will be required to provide your right to work papers or able to apply for a visa to work in the UK.)
